Who we are

Visitor analytics

I use GoatCounter, a privacy-focused analytics service, to get a rough sense of how many people visit the site and which pages are popular. GoatCounter does not use cookies or any other method of storing information in your browser, and it does not build a profile of you across visits. It briefly uses your IP address, together with your browser’s user-agent string, to recognize repeat visits within an 8-hour window — that combination is converted into a random, non-reversible value, and the original IP address itself is not stored. Your approximate location (country) is derived from your IP address for the aggregate statistics, but the IP address is discarded, not saved.

Because no cookies or persistent identifiers are used, no consent banner is required for this. You can read more in GoatCounter’s own privacy documentation. GoatCounter’s servers are located in the EU (Germany and Finland).

Cookies

This site does not automatically set any cookies of its own. The one exception: if you click "Always display content from …" on an embedded SoundCloud, Mixcloud, or YouTube player (see below), that choice is remembered in a cookie called embed-privacy for one year, so you’re not asked again on future visits. This cookie is only ever set as the direct result of you deliberately choosing to remember your preference — never automatically — so no consent banner is required for it either.

Beyond that, the only cookies you might encounter here come from embedded third-party content described below, and only once you’ve actively chosen to load it.

Embedded content from other websites

Set pages on this site often include embedded audio or video players from YouTube, SoundCloud, and Mixcloud so you can listen to or watch a set directly. All three now load only a placeholder by default — nothing is requested from YouTube, SoundCloud, or Mixcloud, and none of their cookies are set, until you actively click to display the content. Once you do, the relevant provider’s own cookies and tracking may apply:

Comments are switched off site-wide, so no comment data (name, email, or otherwise) is collected through this site.

Server logs and security

Like virtually every website, the hosting infrastructure and security tools that keep this site running and safe (including firewall and malware-scanning software) automatically log basic technical information for each visit — such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested — for a limited time, purely to operate the site, diagnose problems, and protect against abuse. This information isn’t used for tracking or marketing.

Legal basis for processing

Where EU/UK data protection law (the GDPR) applies, the legal basis for the limited processing described above is legitimate interest — understanding site usage in aggregate and keeping the site secure — balanced against your privacy, and it does not involve building a profile of you.

Your rights

If you’re in the EU/UK, you generally have the right to ask what personal data (if any) is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its processing. Given how little is actually collected here, there’s rarely much to act on, but if you have a request or concern, email johan@attacmusic.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If what this site collects or how it’s handled changes, this page will be updated with a new “last updated” date above.
